Gas passing through Slovakia will be “driven” by state-of-the-art machines

The international natural gas transmission system in Slovakia will enjoy greater safety and reliability also thanks to new high-performance turbo compressors. Eustream plans to put the gas turbines into service in 2013.

The installation of two new turbo compressors with an overall power of 66 megawatts for the compressor station in Veľké Zlievce represents an important investment into the transmission system operated by Eustream.

“Replacing old gas turbines with new turbo sets is in line with the long-term priorities of Eustream, to increase consistently the reliability and safety of the gas transmission on the European market. In addition new technologies minimize environmental impact of our activities and fully comply with strict emission limits.”, underlined Antoine Jourdain, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eustream.

The investment costs for the whole project come to around EUR 70 million. Eustream plans the launch of the new equipment into operation for the second half of 2013. The two turbo compressor units will be supplied by Rolls-Royce, the winner of an international tender. The contract was signed in Bratislava on 27 September 2010.

In the next five years Eustream plans to invest several hundred million euros into the modernisation and upgrade of the transmission system. The main targets are replacing of old technologies, compliance with increasingly strict emission limits, safety and reliability of the system. The company exerts its best effort to operate the system in an environmentally-friendly way. Furthermore, Eustream is focusing on gas infrastructure and on increasing the security of gas supplies. This area includes, for example, the establishment of new cross-border interconnections and arrangement of the gas reverse flow.
